Perspective I

A perspective of meaning by Summer Shultz

DEFIANCE / AUTONOMY / LONGING

Black is beautiful

You look but you don’t see,

you hear but you don’t listen

You steal from me

But take only from yourself

That’s not mine and I don’t want it

I am mine and you can’t have it

Closing the door, gently

Alone in a room that no one else can enter

The walls of this room all mirrors

My thoughts,

Unclouded and reflective

…Leave me to wander here

Aloneness that transcends longing

I found it –

The source of my power

But power is not needed here

Could it really be so simple?

Art comes from incompleteness

Sat on a wall

Had a great fall

Couldn’t be put back together again

The mind moves forward

But the heart knows

There’s no place else but here

It’s not about what’s real

It’s about what burns

This body so small and feeble

This life so short and fleeting

I carry it within me,

Knowing I am an inadequate container

This is what I meant by

Unconditional

Always reaching,

Never grasping

Won’t you please just stay?

The hollow within me

Echoing
